Exploring gym bike types for effective cardio workouts

When you get to the gym, have you ever wondered what is the difference between the gym bikes? What is the goal of each one? What muscles are they going to work on? Note that cycling is one of the most low impact exercises and it has become a popular cardio workout. Lucky for you, today we are going to talk about them. You can take a look at Athletic’s exercising bikes here.

Upright bikes –  different from  spin bikes, upright bikes sit up straight with the pedals beneath you, but the handles are much closer to your body making you almost straight the entire time, unlike spin bikes. The footprint in these types of bikes are usually smaller but you can have high intensity work out in these models. For some people might find the stand up position uncomfortable.

Recumbent Bikes – this kind of exercise bike is made to cause low stress on the lower back and joints because of its reclined position and wider seat. This is an excellent choice for people with back and joint issues or for people who are not used to exercise and are just starting to do so. They target low body muscles and are also indicated for people recovering from injuries.

Spin Bikes – These are maybe the most common types of exercising bikes. You call them spin bikes or indoor bikes. Spin bikes are useful for intense workout and are excellent to simulate outdoor cycling  experiences. They also offer training in resistance levels which allow you to exercise in different positions. Spin bikes are ideal to work on core, lower body muscles and cardio endurance.

Air Bikes – Different from the others, air bikes work on upper body muscles and lower body muscles. Pedals and handles are connected to a fan in front of the bike which goes faster the faster you move. The harder you padel, the more resistance you face. They are excellent for people who like challenges and they are also good for HIIT training intervals. Don’t know what HIIT is? Take a look at this article.

Folding Bikes – As the name says, folding bikes are foldable and are more suitable for home use because of storage and space since they are smaller than the previous bikes. This is a good choice for casual riders or if you want to have the equipment at home. It’s budget and space friendly. Depending on the model you can find adjustable seats, performance monitor, tablet holder and fitness app connector. Since it operates with a belt drive, not a chain, this option is quieter than the other bikes, making it perfect for home usage.

Selecting a bike to have your workouts might be a challenging choice. When you know the options and their differences it is easier to choose what is best according to your goals and needs, if you want to work on just lower or both upper and lower body. It is very important to explore all of your options and to  have the assistance of a professional.
