The ultimate guide to the world of gym bars

When thinking about gym bars or exercising bars, do you know what is the difference between them? Whether you exercise at the gym or at home with your own gym equipment, it’s important to understand the difference. With this equipment it’s possible to have a variety of exercises for people who want to improve their upper body’s muscles. Each bar is designed for a specific purpose and knowing the difference among each one of them will make you closer to your objectives. There are a lot of options you can choose according to your goals. You can check all of Athletic’s options here in our catalog. Let’s explore their features and differences:

  • Olympic Barbell – this is the most common bar, you can use it for exercises like squats, deadlifts, and bench presses. Gathering the olympic barbell with benches you can focus your exercising on shoulders and chest. This combo is essential for people to exercise safely. This bar handles heavy loads making it ideal for strength training.

  • EZ Curl Bar – the EZ curl bar is designed to ease movements on the upper body, especially for people who suffer from wrist pain. It makes the movements more comfortable because it focuses on the upper body.

  • Smith Machine Bar – is a training machine with a fixed barbell. It’s designed for better stability and safety. The fixed bar is suitable for beginners and for people who are recovering from injuries.

  • Trap Bar (Hex Bar): this bar has a hexagon shape and it makes the exercising movements  closer to the body which is a nice option for people who have lower back problems. It’s shape makes the lower back less stressed than the other bars.

  • Swiss bar –  the swiss bar or multi grip bar is used for pressing and pulling exercises. This bar is designed to reduce stress on wrists and shoulders when compared to straight bars.

  • Hybrid bar – this bar combines the olympic barbell and the EZ curl bar. It has a straight  section and curved sections. It allows you to have multiple exercises without changing the bar.

  • Shoulder press bar – also called Viking press bar, is designed for overhead pressing exercises. It has a U-shape with handles on the sides. This bar provides more natural movements on shoulder and upper body pressing exercises.

  • Lat pulldown bar – the lat pulldown bar is made for exercises like pull downs and seated rows. This bar works specifically the muscles from your back. It’s designed to develop and make your upper body stronger.

Remember that each bar has its specific objectives. Now that you are aware of the differences among them, choosing will be easier. You just need to understand which group of muscles you focus on. Also, choosing one specific bar will depend on your limitations, if you have any, and your goals. We also advise you to have the help of a fitness professional that will guide you on selecting the most suitable equipment for your needs.
