Forget the Club, Fitness is the New Social Scene

Globally, a survey showed that 59% of people prefer to meet someone new in fitness groups rather than at a nightclub. In Brazil, that number is even higher, climbing to 66%.

Moreover, based on the behavior of over 130 million users, 1 in 5 Gen Z respondents reported going on a date with someone they met during their workout routine.

In Brazil, participation in running clubs has grown by 109%, double the global average of 59%. It’s the phenomenon described as “Run Club is the New Nightclub.”

As social media consumes more of our lives and awareness of longevity rises, playing sports seems to be shifting from an extra to an integral part of the routine, even if it’s just for 20 minutes — as was the case for 20% of all recorded workouts.

The Rise of “Fitness Socializing”

This shift in behavior is driven by several factors, including:

  • Increased awareness of health and well-being: People are increasingly prioritizing their physical and mental health, and exercise is seen as a key component of a healthy lifestyle.
  • The popularity of group fitness activities: Group fitness classes and running clubs offer a sense of community and support, making it easier for people to stay motivated and achieve their fitness goals.
  • The search for more meaningful social connections: People are looking for ways to connect with others who share their interests and values, and fitness provides a common ground for building relationships.

Social Media and the Fitness Boom

Social media plays a significant role in this trend, allowing people to:

  • Share their fitness journeys: People can share their progress, find inspiration, and connect with others who are on a similar path.
  • Discover fitness communities: Social media makes it easier to find local fitness groups and events.
  • Build relationships with like-minded people: People can connect with others who share their passion for fitness and healthy living.

Exercise: A Priority in the Modern Routine

With growing awareness of the importance of longevity and the increase in time spent on social media, exercise is becoming an essential part of the daily routine. Even short 20-minute workouts can have a significant impact on health and well-being, and this flexibility makes it easier for people to incorporate physical activity into their busy schedules.
