To help you be safe we listed a few things you can do to avoid injuries when exercising.

  1. Stretching – one of the most important things to do before exercising, if it’s not the most important thing, is to stretch up. Stretching will make your blood flow increase, preparing your muscles to exercise, especially for cardio exercises.

  1. Support equipment – these equipment help you protect areas of your body that can be affected especially in exercises like weightlifting.
  • Shoes – Make sure you have shoes that will offer enough support and stability.
  • Gloves – Using gloves will reduce the risk of equipment slipping from your hands due to its grips and they can also give you some cushioning avoiding pressure on the palms of your hands.
  • Wrist wraps – these equipment are excellent for heavy lifting exercises. It will make proper wrist alignment minimizing sprains and strains.

  1. Hydrate and fuel – Hydrating is essential to avoid muscle cramps. It’s also important to have a balanced and healthy diet. This combination will provide the necessary nutrients so your body can perform without getting injured.

  1. Proper form – like stretching, poor form is one of the most common reasons for injuries related to gym exercising. Improper form can not only get you hurt but also limit the effectiveness of the exercises you are practicing. Professional guidance for a proper form is a must to achieve the proper form technique.

  1. Gradually grow intensity – growing intensity from 0 to 10 in a short period of time can be a risky move. Instead you have to build a foundation. Gradually increase your workout intensity, so you minimize the risk of injuries as your body grows stronger every week.

  1. Pain attention to pain – It’s important to pay attention to your body, so you can tell the difference between soreness and actual pain. Continuing exercising when you have an injury can make it even worse and it can prolong your recovery period. If you feel sharp and consistent pain look for professional healthcare help.

  1. Clean environment – having a clean and tidy environment is a must for preventing accidents. Be aware of potential dangers like loosen weights, sweaty equipment and slippery floors.  Wipe the equipment you use, before and after using it. And report other situations to the gym staff.

  1. Rest days –  last but not least, don’t forget to incorporate in your training routine, resting days. Exercising is very important? Yes It is. But taking some time so your muscles can recover is also very important and it will prevent injuries as your muscles will repair and get stronger.
