8 tips on how to start and improve cycling

When choosing a sport to learn and practice it’s true that you are doing it because you enjoy it and probably because of your health. But it’s also true that when you are able to practice a sport you love for a long time, one of the best feelings is to feel that you are improving and achieving goals you set up to yourself previously. Today we are going to discuss cycling, how you can improve your performance to become a better cyclist. If you are thinking about starting to practice the sport this article is for you.   1. Set a goal – if you want to improve your performance, the best way to start is to set up a goal. It can be a championship or specific distance. Having a goal will make you prepare physically and mentally for the challenge you choose.
  2. Have a checklist with everything you need to ride – you prepare yourself with water and food. Before riding check your wheels, chain and brakes. It’s good to know how to change tires for safety.
  3. Implement strength and mobility training – remember that to improve in one sport and prevent injuries you should think about strength workouts as well as stretching and mobility exercises. Cycling is a repetitive sport and cross training will help strengthen your body to improve your performance.
  4. Get a trainer partner – for social connection with the sport, competitiveness and motivation.  Cycling with others can be a learning opportunity. Try local cycling groups in your city or region.
  5. Ride on hills – this might be the most difficult part of the exercise, but it will improve your resistance and breathing. Overtime training is going to get easier.

  7. Eat better – eating healthy and real food is going to help your body to recover better, preventing injuries because your body is going to have more ways to build and strengthen muscles and tendons.   
  8. Last but not least. If you are really willing to improve your game and start to compete, hire a professional coach. It will be the best investment to improve your abilities. He will work on your specific weaknesses and motivate you.

 

As in any sport, don’t forget to rest properly. First in balancing your training and second having a good night of sleep. Always try to be relaxed and keep your posture, cycling techniques are also important for a smooth evolution. Remember that improving your performance at any sport takes time, especially if your goals are very different from your reality today. With consistency you will be able to reach your goals and celebrate your achievements.
